The Great Comeback

Well, the musicians are replaceable
The singer not so much
The people want the voice
Besides, the rest look out of touch
Our ringers will suffice
If they're unidentified in bad lighting

Put the spotlight on the one
A casual audience could name
He'll take our meagre offer
'Cause he's lost without the fame
We'll rake in all the money
Will we hang our heads in shame?
It's unlikely
Oh

The great comeback
Yes, the moment has come around
We're heading to your provincial town
We'll try our best not to let you down
Oh no
It's the great comeback
Don't worry too much if you can't count
That many hits in your memory now
We've got the filler all figured out
Come on down

We'll put a summer tour together
Catch 'em on their holiday
There's so little else to do in seaside towns now anyway
Throw chicken in a basket
They can nod their heads and say, "I quite like this"

Tell a story in between songs
Of how it was in the day
Remind them of their youth
Of how they'd dance the night away
Point 'em to the merchandise
When they're drunk enough to pay our high prices
Oh

The great comeback
Yes, the moment has come around
We're heading to your provincial town
We'll try our best not to let you down
Oh no
It's the great comeback
Don't worry too much if you can't count
That many hits in your memory now
We've got the filler all figured out
Come on down to the great comeback

(Watch out for disgruntled ex-members of the original band)
It's the great comeback
(They have lawyers who like to remember)
(This isn't what they planned)
It's the great comeback
(Let 'em settle it all with the singer)
(Keep the tour on track)
It's the great comeback
(He'll be broke and open to more work)
(Don't let him stop to unpack)
It's the great comeback
