It's Not Important Now

Lyrics

I saw you there by the swings
Staring blankly at your phone
Telling me you couldn't talk right now
You said there was someone at the door
And you'll call me back later
Yeah, I've heard that one before
And this time I knew you weren't even at home

It's been like this for weeks now
One minute everything's great, pretty much how it used to be
Actually connecting, or so it seems
The next minute, well... I'm the last person you want to see

It's like you just switch into some other mode altogether
And then I don't know what to think
I get all frustrated because suddenly everything's different
And more often than not, it ends up in some kind of row
One of us storming away

And when you get like this, and then you want to avoid me
I can't help wondering, is this how our story's gonna end?
But then a day or so later
There you are, back again
Like nothing ever happened and we're still the best of friends

I've been trying to work it out, what's going on
I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything
I mean, I know I'm not perfect
Far from it
But something must have changed
And I suppose it's mostly you

I wondered if you were seeing someone else
Maybe that was it
So I started to follow you, here and there
I didn't really want to, but it was driving me nuts
There had to be some explanation, surely

And that's when I saw you, out in the park at night
Laying on the roof of someone's car, all alone
I don't think you even cared whose car it was
You were just staring into space

So, from a distance, I called your phone
I saw you look to see who it was
And then you just threw your phone down on the grass, still ringing

I wanted to go and ask you right then, "What are you doing?"
But then I thought, "No"
It was just really obvious to me
Everything I thought there was between us
All of it, to you at least
It's not important now
